This past week, we harvested two Hickory trees that will eventually become beautiful furniture. The larger of the two trees is estimated to be between 150 and 200 years old, while the smaller one is between 100 and 150 years. The trees displayed beautifully colored heartwood, and one tree was infested by carpenter ants. While the ants do kill the tree, they bore holes and leave behind very unique and interesting colorings and patterns in the wood. Look for some unique pieces made from these trees in about a year.
